Geoffrey Planque is an interpret of Bharatanatyam, the South Indian theatre and dance from Tamil Nadu. He started his training in Paris, under the guidance of Sabine Pandaredattil, disciple of Yamini Krishnamoorthy. In 2008, during his Ph. D on Indian Aesthetics, he joined the Nrityalakshana Dance School in Chennai, directed by Acharya Choodamani A. Lakshman Swamy.
He has been part of many dance festivals, in Europe and in India, performing mostly as a soloist.
As a choreographer, he questions the links between the dancing body and the poetic composition. Geoffrey Planque aims at building bridges between cultures as well as promoting Indian performing arts not only on stage but in museums, churches, industrial spaces. He is willing to frame a modern aesthetic of the sacred throughout hybrid productions: the choreographic cycle “Barok-Natyam” (2017) combines Indian performing art with Baroque music.
Geoffrey Planque is currently learning Odissi, a performing art form from Orissa, with guru Krishnendu Saya in Udaipur.
